IUFRO Special Recognition Award to Jan Heino

In recognition of his outstanding and valuable service

During the IUFRO Anniversary Congress in Freiburg, Jan Heino was presented IUFRO´s Special Recognition Award.

During his tenure at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Jan Heino significantly strengthened the collaboration between FAO and IUFRO and he also supported IUFRO´s joint initiatives in the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), including the Global Forest Expert Panels and the Global Forest Information Service (GFIS).

High-level international environment

Jan Heino´s extensive experience of working in a high-level international environment was extremely important to IUFRO. He was also vigorously engaged in activities to enlarge IUFRO´s donor community in his capacity as IUFRO Development Officer.

Science-policy interface

Through these and other efforts, Jan Heino has significantly contributed to IUFRO´s strategic goal of increasing the visibility of science-based research findings and strengthening its work at the science-policy interface.

Promoter of IUFRO

Jan Heino has been a superb promoter of IUFRO at the international level and an excellent door opener behind the scene to donor organizations and international supporters for IUFRO.

The first person outside the IUFRO management

In recognition of his outstanding and valuable service to IUFRO, Jan Heino is presented IUFRO´s Special Recognition Award. He is the first person to receive the award who is not directly involved in IUFRO’s management.
