A SIDA-sponsored project

The project is designed to strengthen IPSARD’s economic and policy research capacity.

Swedish and Vietnamese researchers

In order to meet this aim, the group are conducting joint research on forestry reform in Vietnam and observing Scandinavian and Asian models of forestry practices. Policy advice will then be combined between Swedish and Vietnamese researchers and presented to the Vietnamese government.

The seminar in Stockholm about experiences from Vietnam

SIFI and KSLA arrange this seminar the 3rd of June about experiences from Vietnam with a global overview. The Institute of Policy and Strategy in Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD) and the Stockholm-based Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) are special invited guests and speakers.

The open landscape around Bai Bang has been changed into forest, but in spite of this there is no talk of conflict. Some foresters in Sweden who have worked in Bai Bang have now started a project to see if lessons of general value for other countries can be drawn from Bai Bang. For example, was the establishment of a reliable market the main reason for the success? Is this because more or less everybody has got something positive out of the plantations and accepts certain negative aspects? How important is it that land was allocated to farmers?
