1 apr 2014

FACULTY OF FORESTRY, UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

We invite applications for a lecturer (term appointment) to be involved in the teaching, coordination, and development of graduate courses in the new course-based Master of International Forest program (MIF). The Master of International Forestry (MIF) Program is a new one year course-based program for both domestic and international students that have at least Bachelor degrees but desire further training.

A new course on forests and livelihoods

The lecturer will develop, coordinate and lead instruction in a new course on forests and livelihoods, and contribute to the instruction of courses in social, community and indigenous forestry (FRST 522), forest business enterprise (FRST 560), and natural resource planning (FRST 559), as required. The lecturer will work with the MIF instructor group on development, marketing and continual improvement of the program. We expect up to 40 students per year in this program and this will be an international student group that includes recent graduates as well as early and mid-career professionals. Teaching will include on-line material, classroom-based lectures, seminars and project work, field-based exercises, and field trips, including a week-long trip in late August/early September each year. The lecturer will assist in mentoring and advising individual students.

A PhD in an appropriate field

The lecturer will be involved in reviewing applicant files, interviewing applicants and guiding admitted students in choosing elective courses, and monitoring student progress. The lecturer will assist the student services team in recruitment and promotional activities for the program.

The lecturer must have a PhD in an appropriate field. Two or more years of relevant experience in field and classroom instruction with adult learners is highly desirable. The lecturer must have experience in curriculum development and have demonstrated excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. The lecturer must have professional experience in international forest management or conservation.

This position is initially for one year

The lectureship appointment will start on July 1, 2014, although an alternate start date can be negotiated. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal for subsequent years.
