Key Messages

The forest sector contributes significantly to Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption) and related SDGs, acknowledging the trade-offs between ecology and economy are required to achieve goals related to climate, biodiversity and land degradation.

Renewable forest products hold vast potential to contribute to the transition toward carbon-neutral societies and build inclusive, resilient and sustainable economies.

Cities and communities are engines of innovation and provide new sustainable solutions and options to promote resource efficiency, opening opportunities to attract new capital and investments.

Local forest-based value chains support inclusive economic development and can be further strengthened by building trust and dialog between stakeholders along the value chains and policymakers.
